POOLE ROWING CLUB CELEBRATES THE LAUNCH OF A NEW BOAT - THE RON FOAD

Following horrendous weather, the sun shone on Poole Amateur Rowing Club on Sunday 6th December when they honoured Ron Foad by naming their new pair scull rowing boat in his name. As is tradition following the naming and launching of  the boat, the Ron Foad raced and won its first race which was crewed by Daryl Price and Steve Avery Hebditch who won the South Coast rowing pairs Championship this year. Ron joined the Poole Rowing club in 2001 as a veteran rower (40+) and has been an active and valued member since. Recent ill health prevented his rowing  but he still visits the club when possible. Ron commented “ thank you to all who attended, I feel very honoured and may this boat win many times.”

Ron continued to explain that although  suffering from MESOTHELIOMA for the past 2 years, an incurable asbestos related lung cancer, he has had excellent treatment at Poole Cancer Unit. Unfortunately, additional chemo therapy will not reduce the tumour any further. Ron  now travels to Germany every 6 weeks for a new type of private therapy, not available on the NHS. The first 2 sessions of therapy have shown some reduction in the size of the tumour. Ron being Ron wanted to share this with any other people reading this article who may find this of personal interest.

Club members packed the club and boat house together with Ron’s family members from Southampton and the Midlands who together celebrated the day.
